I've been playing Guitar for about 30 years.. and mainly I am into instrumental hard rock/metal. I had gone from the old days of 4 track recording in my basement to starting with digital audio/hard disk recording around 1999. I actually started with Pro Audio 8 or 9.. but never did much. I wasn't used to the whole concept of hard disk recording and so it never caught on with me. Either way, I had begun to play less and less since that is the turn life had given me. Finally I tried CUbase SE and fell in love and went to SX 2 and upgraded to SX3. But despite doing a few songs, and buying TWO BOOKS.. and TWO DVD's on Cubase... I just never "got into the flow." When Steinberg screwed the SX3 users and dropped support I switched to Sonar 7... but dabbled some and then put it on the backburner (life again). =) Well, recently the fire inside was far to great and I upgraded 8 and 8.5.. and WOW!!! I am in LOVE!! I am currently writing songs at a pace I have never done.. thanks to 8.5. I am using 8.5 Producer Edition x64 and it was AMAZING!! The tools, stability, and the experience of 64 bit are UNPARReLED!! Pro Tools has some nice features, so does Cubase.. but neither can compete with Sonar's completeness!!! The included "bonuses" with Producer Edition are WELL WORTH the difference. Get it seriously!! The 64 bit plugins are awesome and are VERY USEFUL!! Also, you can customize Sonar to whatever degree you want which is incredible as well. But the workflow and stability are what have kept me so pumped. Oh, and the UAD plugins ROCK awesome in Sonar.. EVEN in x64 windows!!! So no more excuses!!

I have been using Cakewalk products since '98 pre-Sonar days and never have I been as blown away by the improvements included in this upgrade. The Audiosnap V.2.00 functionality lives up to it's promise, offering much improvement over it's predecessor. The addition of 64-bit effect processors designed specifically for vocals and drums greatly speed up the tweaking process and include some great pre-programmed modelings. But most importantly, Sonar 8.5 really allows me to get the most out of Windows 7 multithreading/multicore chips (I use the i7 920, 6GB DDR3) in 64 bit/192k fidelity. With numerous audio, soft synths and effects, my latency is set at an amazing 1.5ms. I am finally able to utilize Sonar not only in the studio, but as a live effects processor, soft synth and sampler. Combined with the new Matrix view and a few 3rd party apps like iTouchmidi and Loopbe1, I have now enabled my midi sequences to be remotely triggers via my iPhone over a standard wireless network. Very cool!

I have had an awesome experience so far with SONAR 8.5...from its availability as a download to its features. Everything has been positive so far. Keep up the great work.
